Lithuania Post said Wednesday it will temporarily suspend shipments to the United States starting August 21, citing uncertainty over upcoming US customs changes.
The decision comes ahead of August 29, when the United States will abolish its de minimis exemption, which currently allows duty-free imports of goods valued at up to $800, the company said.
“Due to the uncertainty, Lithuania Post is temporarily suspending shipments to the US in order to avoid potential delays, disruptions or other difficulties linked to the changes,” the company said in a statement.
US authorities have not yet provided clear instructions on how customs duties will be collected, what data will be required, or how cooperation with US customs will proceed, the company added.
Exceptions will remain for letters, postcards and gifts valued up to $100, which can still be sent to the US through Lithuania Post offices.
